“When Laila’s Gift throws a party, it’s more than just balloons and cake—it’s a life-changing celebration for children with special needs and their families,” said Founder Shari Bailey. “Since our inception in Maryland in 2022, Laila’s Gift has provided free birthday and milestone celebrations for children with disabilities, serving over 1,000 families (known as Sunflower Families). Now, we’re expanding our reach, bringing our empowering mission to families across the U.S.”
Bailey, a mother of twins, knows firsthand the challenges and joys of raising a child with disabilities. Her daughter, Laila, was born with Jacobsen Syndrome, a rare congenital condition that affects 1 in 100,000 newborns and often presents life-threatening challenges. Since Laila’s birthdays were never guaranteed, Bailey has made every birthday a true celebration of life (Laila is now 10 years old). Now, through Laila’s Gift, she is dedicated to helping other families celebrate the milestones and victories of children with special needs.
