Laila was born September 5, 2014 with her twin sister, Lana. While Lana was considered "normal" at the time of birth, Laila was born with a condition called Jacobsen Syndrome. At the time, Laila was 1 in less than 100 cases around the globe with this very rare condition. In fact, due to the health complications the syndrome brings, roughly 20%-25% of all infants with Jacobsen Syndrome pass away before the age of 2 years old. Since her birth, Laila has been faced with many adversities, yet has overcome them. In 2022, Laila is now 7 years old. She is truly a gift to everyone that meets her. Laila's gift will help bring that same happiness to other children, one gift at a time, by advocating for mental stability, physical wellbeing, and community inclusion.

Our aim is to be the voice of the special needs and disability community. Our commitment is to advocate for, support and celebrate children and their families dealing with challenges that come with raising a child (or children) with special needs and disabilities. We aim to provide emotional support and resources to help families just like Laila's to embrace their circumstance and be assured they are not alone.

Along with the support and resources Laila's Gift offers to the community and parents, our goal is to bring joy to each child by celebrating their birthday and significant milestones. Not only because tomorrow is not promised, but primarily because each year they face many ups and downs, and personal difficulties. Laila's Gift appreciates each child's perseverance and determination to overcome these hardships. We commend their courage, tenacity, and unique gift, therefore we celebrate them.

Shari Bailey, the mother of Laila, founded Laila's Gift in 2022 to shed light on the challenges of being a parent of a special needs and disabled child, as well as promoting inclusion by highlighting the blessing each child brings to the people they encounter. We call this magic, their "gift".

Shari Bailey, the mother of Laila, founded Laila's Gift in 2022 to shed light on the challenges of being a parent of a special needs and disabled child, as well as promoting inclusion by highlighting the blessing each child brings to the people they encounter. We call this magic, their "gift".

Laila's Gift aims to be a champion for the special needs and disabled community by providing resources, support, and encouragement to all.

It takes a village, and Laila's Gift will help and (most importantly) celebrate, one gift at a time.
